Nestled in the picturesque Robertson Valley, alongside the Breede River, their estate embodies the values of family, tradition, and exceptional wine. It is home to the renowned Great Expectations label.

The Du Toit family has owned the farm for three generations, dating back to 1950. In the 1960s, Gabriël Hendrik du Toit, a civil engineer, pursued his dream of becoming a wine farmer by purchasing two neighbouring farms in the scenic Breede River Valley, situated between Robertson and Bonnievale. His son, Jan du Toit, born in April 1961, was raised at Goedverwacht. Today, Jan du Toit and his son, Gawie du Toit, are the current owners of Goedverwacht Wine Estate. Between 1989 and 2015, they expanded the estate by acquiring five additional farms.

The original cellar, built in the early 1950s, has been expanded and modernized to produce high-quality wines. The white wine cellar uses only freerun juice for fruit-driven whites and rosés, while red wines are made in three pump-over tanks and four drainers, offering greater style flexibility.

The finest sites and vineyards have been carefully identified for each varietal, and only grapes from these selected vineyards meet the standard to be bottled under the Great Expectations label.

The Great Expectations label embodies the essence of the wines and the philosophy behind their creation. Each new vintage brings with it an anticipation of further refinement and new possibilities.

With meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards, sustainable farming practices, and a minimalist, hands-off approach in the cellar, the estate produces wines that are celebrated and shared by wine enthusiasts both locally and internationally.
